Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. I would like to talk about one of the national holidays during Golden Week: 憲法記念日(けんぽうきねんび).
Costitution Day is held on May 3rd and is a part of Golden Week. This holiday celebrates the enforcemnet of the current constitution which was enforced on May 3rd of 1947, and it’s a day to remember the hopes for the growth of the country. Its basic principles enshrine democracy and reaffirm that sovereignty rests with the people. Article 6, which is the most important article in the constitution, renounces war, however recently tehre have been some controversial discussions regarding possible revisions to the Constitution, particularly of Article 9.
