Let’s learn Japanese: Lesson 2-(2)

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. Let’s learn Japanese language together!
[そうです/そうじゃ ありません]
In the case of a noun sentence, the word そう is often used to answer a question requiring an affirmative or negative answer.
はい、そうです is the affirmative answer.
いいえ、そうじゃ ありません is the negative answer.
(Example)
それは ノートですか。 —はい、そうです
Is that a notebook? —Yes, it is. (lit. Yes, it’s so.)
それは ノートですか。 —いいえ、そうじゃ ありません
Is that a notebook? —No, it isn’t. (lit. No, it’s not so.)

The verb ちがいます (lit. to differ) can be used to mean そうじゃ ありません.
(Example)
それは ノートですか。 —いいえ、ちがいます
Is that a notebook? —No, it isn’t.
