[S1 か、S2 か] *S refers to a sentence.
This is a question asking the listener to choose between alternatives. S1 and S2 for the answer. As an answer to this type of question, the chosen sentense is stated. Neither はい nor いいえ is used.
(Example)
これは 「9」 ですか、「7」 ですか。 —「9」 です。
Is this a “9” or a “7”? —It’s a “9.”
[そうですか]
This expression is used whenthe speaker receives new information and shows that he/she understands it.
(Example)
A: この傘(かさ)は あなたのですか。 Is this umbrella yours?
B: いいえ、ちがいます。シュミットさんのです。 No, it’s Mr. Schmidt’s.
A: そうですか。 I see.
*傘(かさ): an umbrella
