Traditional instrument: 琴 Koto

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. Today, I introduce one of the Japanese traditional musical instruments: 琴 koto.
Koto 琴 or Japanese harps is similar to a zither with 13 strings with movable bridges for each string. It is about 180 centimeters long and 30 centimeters wide. Players si square on tatami mats or on the floor. It si plyaed by plucking the strings with the thumb and the first two fingers of the right hand. Small picks are put onto those fingers. Meanwhile the left hand may raise the pitch of strings or modify the tone by pressing the strings on the other end of each bridge.
You can learn how to play it during your stay in Japan. We will help you find a koto teacher if you want to learn it.
