Verbs like もらいます, かります and ならいます express actions from the receiving side. The persons from whom you receive those actions are marked with the particle に.
(Example)
田中さんは　山田さんに　花を　もらいました。
Ms. Tanaka received flowers from Mr. Yamada.
カリナさんに　CDを　借（か）りました。
I borrowed a CD from Ms. Karina.
ワンさんに　中国語（ちゅうごくご）を　習（なら）います。
I learn Chinese from Mr. Wang.
*中国語：　Chinese

から is sometimes used instead of に in this sentence pattern. When you receive something from an organization like a school or a company, only から is used.
(Example)
田中さんは　山田さんから　花を　もらいました。
Ms. Tanaka received flowers from Mr. Yamada.
銀行（ぎんこう）から　お金（かね）を　借りました。
I borrowed some money from the bank.

*お金：　money
