Let’s learn Japanese language: Lesson 9-(3)

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school.
[S1から、 S2] *S refers to a sentence.
から connects two sentences together to denote a causal ralationship. S1 is the reason for S2.
(Example)時間(じかん)が ありませんから、 新聞(しんぶん)を 読(よ)みません。
Because I don’t have time, I don’t read the newspaper.

You can also state S2 first and add the reason after it.
(Example)
毎朝(まいあさ) 新聞を 読みますか。 Do you read a newspaper every morning?
—いいえ、読みません。 時間が ありませんから。 —No, I don’t. Because I have no time.
*毎朝: every morning

[どうして]
The interrogative どうして is used to ask a reason. The answer needs から at the end. The question どうしてですか is also used to ask the reason for what the other person has said.
(Example)今日は 早(はや)く 帰ります。 I’ll go home early today.
どうしてですか。 —Why?
子(こ)どもの 誕生日(たんじょうび)ですから。 —Because today is my child’s birthday.
*早く: early
*子ども: child
*誕生日: birthday
