暑中見舞い Shochu mimai

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. Today, I would like to introduce one of the customs in Japan in summer.
Shochu mimai 暑中見舞い or summer greeting postcard is the custom of sending greeting postcards to friends and relatives during midsummer. On the postcards, we inquire as to how the other person is coping with the summer heat. It is considered polite to mail them between July 15 and around August 7th or 8th or the beginning of fall on the lunar calendar. However, many people, especially younger generation, are more likey to send emails, so we don’t see summer greeting cards as much as before.
