花火 Hanabi

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese langauge school. Today’s topic is Hanabi 花火 or fireworks.
Hanabi colors the night sky beautifully. You can enjoy lots of fireworks displays and events everywhere throughout Japan in summer. We have 34 fireworks displays and events only in Fukuoka prefecture in July and August this year. The famous one are Nishinihon Ohori 西日本大濠花火大会 on August 1, Kurume Chikugo-gawa 久留米筑後川花火大会 on August 5, Kitakyushu Summer Festival わっしょい百万夏まつり on August 5, and Kitakyushu Kamon-kaikyo fireworks event 関門海峡花火大会 on August 13. Ogori City also has a fireworks display on August 11. Many people go out there to enjoy beautiful fireworks. You can also see many people in yukata, Japanese traditional clothing in summer. Our students also wear yukata and go to see hanabi every year.
I believe summer is one of the best seasons to enjoy Japanese traditional culture.
