Health insurance in Japan

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. Today’s topic is the health insurance in Japan.
In principle, Japan’s health-insurance system is designed to cover all of its citizens. The system is called “a universal health care system” and establishes the basis of a social securiy system. When a person is employed by governmental organizations or private companies, the employee and his or her dependent family members join the health insurance union of their working place. Also, there is the National Health Insurance program operated by municipalities for employees of medium and small companies, self-employed individuals, unemployed people, students and foreigners. Our students learning Japanese language here at NILS must also join the National Health Insurance program. When one sees a doctor, he/she will only need to pay the part (30%) of the cost.
