Enjoying summer

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. The Ogori International Association offers lots of opportunities to join various events and activities for the students learning Japanese language on both campuses of NILS. They hold some parties for foreigners around here, invite our students to some traditional events, etc. Our students have more opportunities to communicate with local people than those in other schools, we believe.

Tomorrow (August 25) we have “Ogori Summer Festival 小郡市民まつり” and many of our students will join it with the members of the Ogori Internatinal Association. Some students join the festival in yukata, a traditional Japanese summer wear. They are looking forward to talking with many people in the community, and we believe these experiences will definitely help our students improve their language skills more than they are expecting.

[Yukata 浴衣]
The yukata is an informal kimono for summer use. They were originally used as nightgowns which were put on after the nightly bath. Being garments made of thin cotton, they are cool and comfortable and much easier to put on than formal kimonos. Today people wear yukata at summer festivals, Bon dancing, fireworks events and other summer events. Wearing yukata has become part the summertime in Japan.
