Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. Today’s topic is the national holiday in October: 体育の日 Taiiku-no-hi or National Sports Day.
It is the second Monday of October (October 8th this year). This holiday was established to remember the opening day of the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. The prupose of this day is to encourage people to enjoy sports and promote their health and well-being . Various sporting events and athletic meets are held everywhere across the country. In Japan, there is a saying that “Autumn is the best season to enjoy sports,” because of its nice, cool weather.
