Work Permit

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. Today’s topic is “work permit.”
New students arrived in Japan last month, and they are getting used to a new life in Japan. Now, their language skills are also getting better, so they are going to get a work permit soon. But at first, they have to pass the test given by the school to check their basic language skills. At most of the work places, all the instructions are given only in Japanese, so the students must be at the certain level to work part time in Japan.
Some students pass in the first test, but some don’t. However, almost all of the students pass the test within 2 to 3 months after their arrival in Japan.
The students who pass the test will get approved for the work permit by the Immigration Bureau and start working part time. They can work for not exceeding 28 hours a week during semesters, but they can work for up to 8 hours a day during long term holidays in summer, winter, and spring. Our students are working part time at factories near the school, 15-30 minutes by bicycle. Some students are teaching English to kids.
Depending on where you work, you can earn JPY60,000-90,000 per month and it covers your living expenses here in Japan.
Tomorrow, new students for the October 2012 Session will take the first test. Hope they will pass and start working soon. Working part time will help them improve their language skills, of course.
