Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. It has been getting colder and coder recently even here in Fukuoka, but autumn is a beautiful season in Japan. When autumn comes, the leaves on the mountains turn to red and yellow. We call the natural phenomenon and the colored leaves themselves koyo (こうよう) or momiji (もみじ). The tinted autumn leaves are very beautiful and Japanese people have traditionally long admired them. many painters, poets and writers have taken up the beauty of koyo as a theme. Also, people enjoy going to see colorful leaves on hills and mountains. It is called momiji gari (もみじ狩り) or autumnal leaves hunting and is the same kind of event as cherry-blossom viewing in spring.
November 8th News from NILS Japanese language school.
