Valentine’s Day in Japan

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. Today’s topic is “Valentine’s Day” in Japan.
We, in Japan, have a unique Valentine’s Day custom, that is, women give chocolate to men to show their affection.
Honmei-choco 本命チョコ, a chocolate for the favorite, is given to someone very special, and Giri-choco 義理チョコ, oblgation chololate, is given to your male family members, friends, co-workers, etc.
But we have different types of Valentine’s chocolate in addition to Honmei- and Giri-choco in the last few years. Now you can see tomo-choco 友チョコ, chocolate for friends, exchanged between female friends. Women also buy chocolate as a treat for themselves, and it is called my-choco マイチョコ, chocolate for myself.
This is quite different custom from the Valentine’s Day custom in your country, I believe.
