Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. I think many people in the United States are enjoying the Word Series, and here in Japan, the Japan Series started last Saturday. It is the first time for Tohoku Rakuten Eagles to play in Japan series, and many people in Tohoku area where the tsunami hit 2 years ago are expecting their victory in the series.
Baseball has been the most popular sport in Japan since it was introduced by an American shool teacher in 1871. In those days, players wore loincloths or hakama, formal Japanese skirts, insetad of uniforms. Prior to the advent of the professional game in 1934, there were tournamnets among six universities, as well as all-Japan high school baseball tournaments. Now there are two professional leagues, the Central League and the Pacific League, consisting of six teams each. The winners in each league compete against each other in the Japan Series at the end of the season.
Today, the Game 3 is being held.
