Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school.
We had three consecutive holidays from November 2 to November 4. November 3 is a national holiday called “文化の日(Culture Day),” and it was Sunday this year, so we had this Monday off.
November 3 was originally celebrated as the Meiji emperor’s birthday. It was also on this day that the Japanese Constitution was proclaimed. To commemorate both events, this day was stablished as the national holiday dedicated to “the love of freedom, peace and the promotion of culture.” It’s also the day when the government grants cultural-service awrds to people who have contributed to Japanese culture, on whom the emperor confers the order of Cultural Merit at the Imperial Palace.
