2014 School Activities in Winter/Spring Short Course

We would like to introduce a few of the school activities we will offer in our winter/spring courses this year. It is still cold in Fukuoka, but I believe it will be getting warmer and warmer soon.

One of the most popular activities at NILS is calligraphy. Most of our students have never experienced writing with brush. Even Chinese students have never used brush to write with.
First, students even don’t know how to hold a brush. They hold a brush like a pencil, but they cannot write well in that way. We show them how to hold one, and then students first practice to write only lines. Some time later, they get used to writing with brush. After that, they start writing their favorite letter or word using brush very well. Many like to write kanji, not hiragana or katakana. They practice many times until they can write their favorite word in good shape.

Visiting historic places is also poplular among students. Fortunately, there are lots of historic sites in Fukuoka. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is one of most famous shrines in Japan. Lots of people go there to make a wish to the god. Moreover, Kyushu National Museum is very close to the shrine, so you can also learn some history of Japan there.
