NILS Spring Course Activity: Sagemon-meguri

Today, we introduce the interview with our student about NILS spring course activity, Sagemon-meguri in Yanagawa City. You can enjoy watching beautiful hina dolls there and you can also enjoy sightseeing on the boat there.

1. Because the weather forecast said that it would be fine on Monday, so we changed the date of the week’s activity. Sorry for the change, but we want you to enjoy it on a fine day!
—I was excited to go on Monday rather than last Thursday because the weather was perfect!

2. You saw many hina dolls there, and I believe you were impressed by their beauty. How did you like it?—I had never seen anything like that before. The displays were very impressive in size and organization. The dolls were so intricate and beautiful. I would never have known about Yanagawa if it wasn’t for this activity, so I’m thankful we went.

3. You also enjoyed local cuisine. Yanagawa is very famous for eel cuisine. Did you eat eels? It was your first time to try eels, right? How was it?
—While some of the food was foreign to my palate, I enjoyed the meal. I have only tried eel on Sushi before, but I enjoyed this kind even better. I’m looking forward to trying more foods.

4. What about other traditional Japanese cuisine?
—There are some other Japanese foods that I already love so I look forward to trying as much as I can!

5. This activity includes “Kawakudari,” sightseeing on the boat. There are small rivers in the city, and many people visit there to enjoy Kawakudari. How did you like it?
—I loved it! I plan to go back to enjoy the boats again. The boat was so relaxing and we saw beautiful sights along the rivers.

6. We are so happy to hear that. Now, it is almost 3 weeks now from you started taking our program. Are you enjoying your stay here in Japan and your study with us?
—I’ve learned more than I thought was possible even just a few weeks in. The way Japanese is taught here is amazing. You learn so quickly. The teachers are amazing, not only while teaching but I also love I can ask any questions about Japanese life and they will happily answer. The teachers have really helped me feel comfortable while staying here.
