Everyone has visited Starbucks Coffee at least once. In Japan, it is famously pronounced as called “スタバ” (Sutaba).
Now, let’s take a look at one of the most famous Starbucks Coffee stores in Japan, located in Fukuoka.
Blending Tradition and Modernity
Designed by architect Kengo Kuma, this store was built with concepts from a combination of traditional and modern designs using natural materials.
Located near the torii gate on the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, the store features a distinctive design, from its entrance to its exterior, using traditional wooden structures.
In addition, the inner garden of the store contains a plum tree, which is a symbol of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Here, customers can enjoy a luxurious experience surrounded by the cozy environment and the aroma of coffee.
How about a souvenir?
Additionally, this store sells many original goods. One of its highlights being the “Coffee Aroma Mug Tobikanna,” part of the “JIMOTO made series” by Starbucks Japan. This mug, carved with patterns using traditional techniques from Koishiwara, a pottery town near Dazaifu, is designed to help people learn about the region through the product and it is also a recommended souvenir from Dazaifu.
