New Year’s Greeting from Riat-san

p1180001
We received a new year’s greeting card from Mr. David Riat two weeks ago. But he also sent gifts to us, and we received them today. He sent each of NILS teacher a greeting message with a little quiz and Swiss chocolate. Whenever we receive such letters and messages from our previous students, it always reminds us of the time we spent together. We are very happy to have such experiences with the students from all over the world.

The above message is for Tanaka-sensei.
It says,
“How are you, Tanaka-sensei?
When we talk about Japnaese last names here in Swiss, we first come up with ‘Tanaka’. I wonder why, but I think it is common in Japan. When I first received the reply to my inquiry, I was amazed, and then I laughed. ‘Tanaka-san is at the school!’ I cannot believe.”

Tanaka is one of the most common last names here in Japan, so this name is frequently used in Japanese language textbooks. People who have learned Japanese definitely see this name in their textbooks. We will introduce common last names in Japan next time.
