Today's Phrase

専門学校(せんもんがっこう)

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school. We will have a graduation ceremony on March 6. Today’s topic is schools where our graduates will learn after completing NILS programs. First, we talk about senmon gakko or voational schools.

Vocational schools are intended to provide practical and technical education. They offer special curricula that are necessary to acquire skills and knowledge for a particular profession. There are various kinds of vocational schools in such fields as nursing, cooking, language, fashion, computers and all sorts of other different skills. With the recent collapse of the academic-career based society, many students choose to go to vocational schools to obtain practical and useful qualifications.

We will tell you about colleges and universities in Japan later.
