World Heritage of Japan: 法隆寺(2)

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school.
One of the students learning Japanese language in the intensive program ask me a question regarding the previous school news about Horyuji Temple.

Question: “How has a woolden building survived for over 1,000 years?”
Answer: The hinoki ceypress, grown only in Japan and Taiwan has the characteristic of growing ever stronger for about 200 years after being cut. It is believed that the building has also been protected by the hinoki’s aroma whichi is temite-repellent. The endurance of Horyuji Temple proves that hinoki, which in this case had lived more than 1,000 years, could last another 1,000 years after beeing cut.
