New School Year

Hello, I am Yoshi from NILS Japanese language school.
A new school year has started in Japan in April. We have welcome ceremonies for new students at Japanese schools in early April. Today’s topic is about school uniforms.
In Japan, most junior high and high schools have their own school uniforms for their students. A boy’s uniform consists of a white shirt, tie and blazer with the school crest, or the jacket with a closed collar called tsumeeri, and pants. For girls, the uniform includes a blouse, tie or ribbon, blazer with school crest adn skirt. A sailor outfit is also popular for female stduents. As for footwear, it is quite common to wear white or navy socks. Shoes are typically brown or black penny loafers. Students usually have two kinds of uniforms, for summer and winter. They all change their uniforms on the days of koromogae or the seasonal changes of clothing in June and October.
